Slow Release Heat
Due to their longer inherent warming times, being that the heating cables are located between 35mm and 75mm below the floor covering. The heat is generated by the cables, stored in the concrete slab and then released slowly during the day. Zones can be divide by room or more typically by open space and are thermostatically controlled. The effect of in slab heating is continuous and akin to a pleasant background heat source.
Heating Polished or Treated Concrete Floors
An in-slab heating solution is the best option for polished concrete floors and large-scale commercial developments such as cold rooms. Once the concrete is poured and allowed to set – as per the manufacturer’s written specifications – the floor can be covered, treated, rendered or polished without any regard to the heating system below. Truly, an in slab system can be a lifelong and permanent feature of a building.
Part of the Initial Design Process
Unlike surface-fixed floor heating system, in-slab products are only available in new construction projects as the cables are installed at the time the slab is poured. It is important to consult with a Livella representative from the early stages of construction so that all preparations can be made.
Inslab Floor Heating System Installation
Installation of a Livella in slab floor heating system is very straight forward. Firstly calculate the floor area of the zone to be heated (coming in 200mm from any fixtures or fittings), secondly, in a residential application multiply the net heated area by 180, this will approximate the amount of wattage required to heat the zone, thirdly, match this desired wattage with the closest in slab heating cable on the sizing guide and confirm this specification with Livella.
You can then contract your own electrician to do the installing of your new Livella inslab heating system or contact Livella's head office for a recommended installer.
